Baroness - Blue Record [2009]

So like I got this a few weeks ago from a buddy who got the leak and then let it sit on my desktop to marinate for about two weeks. I listened to it today, and boy is it awesome. The Blue Record much more Mastodon-y and hard hitting than the stuff on the Red Album, the Record is much more than 10-15 standalone tracks like their previous material was ATMO. This album is definitely in my interests considering I spent the last week or two listening to Cave In (and Project Pat).

Mad stars.

Eero Johannes - S/T

Stumbled upon (but not Stumbleupon'd) this album today. Finnish robot Eero Johannes' self titled album is chock full of fucking wacky sugary electro-R'n'B. It has interesting little hints of Prince, 90's R'n'B, modern electro, and even some dubstep and breakbeat sort of stuff. Eero Johannes also shares some tonal and rhythmic themes with Prodigy, Alter Ego, Flying Lotus, and Simian Mobile Disco. It's all a little silly but it has a full body and a certain funkiness. I was going to recommend a few tracks but I can't decide which ones I like the most. Think "Clock" by Simian Mobile Disco if it were played by Prince.

Check out Eero Johannes' MySpace and buy it on vinyl if you really like it.

Fast bike

Excuse the risers on this one, I've been having back problems lately. This bike makes me so happy, mad light and the ride is pretty plush considering it's a stiff as fuck aluminum frame. I really like the Omnium crankset too since it's pretty convenient to lose the crank puller. Only issue is the aftermarket Soma Rush fork has cheap wet paint that is quickly chipping away, so not fresh.

Tiny Hawks

Fingers Become Bridges is a kick ass album. Tiny Hawks are a math rock-y two piece from Providence. Think math rock with some midwest emo and post-hardcore thrown in. Shouted and non-shouted vocals, awesome drum playing, and sweet guitar.

Benga - Newstep [2006]

This is a great example of older dubstep, deep-housy-bassliney electronica. There are a couple hard hitters on the album but it's mostly chilled out stuff. Definitely worth a listen if you like bassline, deep house, or the dubstep that's getting popular now.

Rian Murphy & Will Oldham - All Most Heaven

Ha! This is not almost Heaven. It is Heaven. In my opinion Will Oldham's voice is unbeatable. He sounds more human than anyone else...ever. Listen to this album if you want to hear his voice with some really classy folk/jazz churning underneath that beautiful beautiful voice. Starts good and ends up getting better and better! Only 16 minutes worth of joy here so don't miss this quick fix.

World Of Pooh - Land Of Thirst (Extended Edition)

This is an album I found from one of my favorite blogs that no longer exists..maybe it was Earful Of Noize...or I Supply The Country With Butter..fact of the matter is those blogs don't exist so here is an album that is very hard to find!
World Of Pooh was an indie pop/post-punk/noise band from San Fran maybe 20 years ago. This is an easy album to get into; incredibly hard to find, considered a classic, hook-filled, lo-fi-ish production and just plain good songwritting. More information about disc (by the way I have uploaded the "Extended Edition" which has a couple tracks added on from the bands 7"s):

"After 28th Day broke up, [Barbara] Manning joined singer/guitarist Brandan Kearney's noise project World of Pooh and turned it into a rock band. The group's sole album, The Land of Thirst, commands high prices from collectors, and with good reason: it's a magnificent record. The terrible tensions within the band are hidden by wan melodies, but come out in the brutal lyrics: "Stay away, your flesh disgusts me/Your attentions are an ugly parody of things I've always wanted" (from Kearney's "Mr. Coffee-Nerves"). Almost every song is a killer, but the best are Manning's "Scissors" (covered by everyone from Peter Jefferies to Yo La Tengo), Kearney's "Playing One's Own Piano" and their collaboration, the simple, tragic "I'm on the Wrong Side." Secret weapon: drummer Jay Paget, who later joined Thinking Fellers Union Local 282. A subsequent World of Pooh single was notable for Manning's "Someone Wants You Dead"; the long-delayed A Trip to Your Tonsils EP rounded up most of the band's remaining recordings, including another version of "Stones of Judgement" and a cover of Les Paul and Mary Ford's "Blow the Smoke Away."'

Alter Ego - Transphormer [2004]

If you haven't heard this you should probably put it on and kill yourself. Some German dude/dudette/dudes/etc. roll us out some dope synthetic rock music, I guess. I found out about them through some prog-house mix that had the track "Rocker" on it. It's all pretty minimal but it definitely shows a really nice understanding of tonal themes you might find in rock music in tracks like "Rocker" and "Nasty Dollars". Transphormer is kind of on the minimal/progressive side of house and electro and has a lot of potential for reworking into serious bangers. Give it a listen; it's pretty killer.

Hudson Mohawke - Polyfolk Dance EP

Bro...all I done know is the album cover...the one track my roommate showed me..yeah...and the fact that this is obviously bangfest 09.

Dude is from Glasgow. Makes glitchy hip hop beats that sound like confetti made of diamonds sprinkled all over your bitches tits while you whip it in the range...holla!

Tony posted so I AUTOMATICALLY HAVE TO: Guitar Wolf

Prepare to be blown away by a pure wall of Japanese noise punk psychobilly awesomeness, you may even call it a garage door. Guitar Wolf was a trio of crazy Japanese dudes who were probably caught up in the whole bosozoku deal and decided that the European/American motorcycle-punk thing was way cooler. They put out a few albums and an awesome movie and were featured in one of those dumb (but totally awesome) Men in Black movies. They are raw, violent, explosive, deafening, and awesome.

Birth-Days - Download Candy

So there is this awesome kid named Peter who lives down the hall from me at College. Sometimes I'll walk by his door and be all like "wtf...is Avey Tare in there? What tuning is that!?! I WANT THAT AS A DOWNLOADABLE MPEG-1 AUDIO LAYER 3!!!"

WELL HE JUST HOOKED IT THE FUCK UP! HE DONE MADE AN ALBUM! THE ALBUM IS FUCKING SWEEET :-D

I'd say it sounds kind of like...uhh...I don't know...it's pretty original. Some of the vocal melodies remind me a lot of Avey Tare but less "i'm happy and on acid!' and more "I sound happy but listen to what I am saying It isn't as simple as that!!". The instrumentation is pretty layered, possibly comparable to some Olivia Tremor Control type sprawl gone lo-fi or an Atlas Sound sans Cox's pessimistic shoe-gazer-y. I'm not too keen on going super in-depth with album summaries...basically I'm just trying to sound like I know a lot about music...basically this is a undeniably catchy, strangely euphoric, delightfully sinister (yep I'm talking about you Blue Velvet samples!), and above all HIGHLY PERSONAL album that is a clear example of why DIY and the internet and computers and guitars and Peters kick so much ass.

Birth-Days - Download Candy

By the way, this kid lives down the hall from me.

Here We Go Magic

This album is really great. It reminds me a lot of Person Pitch but with more emphasis on loops and less emphasis on effects. There are a lot of fun melodies hiding underneath soothing samples of...I don't know a lot of really smooth sounding instruments. Here We Go Magic's vocalist Luke Temple has a really nice voice that works well with his pretty sound collages. This is my first post at Home Run Boat and when Cliff brings you darkness I will bring you light. Have fun with this gem.

Here We Go Magic - Self Titled Debut

First Post! Heresy/Concrete Sox Split LP [1987]

So I decided I'd start things off with a little background, so I decided I'd drop this '87 crusty-brit-thrash masterpiece featuring the brutal and doubtlessly excellent "Speak Siberian or Die". This split is about as dirty as the people who made it, and this is the kind of stuff I listened to a year or two ago. the next few posts will be more stuff that I already had up like this so expect to see (maybe a bit more palatable) dark and dirty stuff in the crust/metal spectrum for a bit before I put more (probably dark but much less dirty) albums online.

Cheers!
